Comments: Bonner Cohen, writing in Earth Times,
This somewhat muddled Spiked article - http://www.spiked-online.com/Articles/00000006DA1C.htm - also attempts to winkle some insight out of the events at WSSD. It attempts a historical account of ideas to explain the apparent shift in focus and asks:
"So why are groups like Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace, who previously saw the environment as a higher priority than poverty, now focusing on the poor? And why are corporations joining the greens' anti-corporate agenda?"
The question has flaws, the historical account is incomplete and the conclusions seem not to follow from the evidence presented but the attempt to make sense of the events at WSSD by examining the history of ideas seems worthwhile and I expect to see more of the same as writers and pundits publish their works in the coming weeks.
