[NEWS AND VIEWS] « Free goodies. | Home | Tunisian PR. » December 10, 2003Optimism reigns. Well, cautious optimism anyway. An hour before the official opening of the summit, Daily Summit has been mingling with the thousands - who are themselves mingling around the hundreds of civil society stands - asked a handful for their view so far."I am relieved that the Declaration and Action Plan have arrived at last on the eve, and that they broadly express concerns about global society", one man said. Another was particularly glad with the recognition of libraries in the information society. One woman told us that she was pleased to see so many organisations here, and that she believed there is a reasonable focus on using IT for development. But she added that she "would like to see the conference acknowledge that we need to address how people who can't get access to the internet can get connected".
