[NEWS AND VIEWS] « Arrival! | Home | ITU Sec-Gen speaks. » December 09, 2003Gun count after 30 minutes at WSIS? Already in the dozens due to the various heavies, soldiers in full camouflage (not sure where they expect to find any trees in the sprawling concrete venue), and armed police.Even as you approach the building armed guards peer down from the roof. And queues snake back from ranks of full body and bag scanners. Erin Dean @ December 9, 2003 11:46 AM
The people dressed like trees aren't the REAL security. ;)

Do you know something we don't Taran?

Aaron,
At such a high level summit, one would expect more than trees running around with automatic weapons. That's visible security, and it's most effective when it comes to a deterrent. Real security issues are something that deterrents wouldn't deal with... it's only sensible that there be other people who blend in to the environment who are seeing things at a different level. Security is an onion, I think you're just seeing the outer layer. Taran @ December 9, 2003 07:37 PM
